Zinc oxide in lubricants and greases
Zinc oxide is used both for the production of zinc dithiophosphates and certain specialized lubricants and grease formulations. The main role of zinc oxide in automotive engine oils is to help in reducing the oxidation, corrosion and wear on the engine. Zinc oxide is sometimes included in the preparation of greases for high temperature or high pressure applications. Different grades are used according to the formulation and the purity requested, meaning : EPM (direct grade), RED SEAL or NEIGE (indirect grade).
